Currituck - The N.C. Department of Transportation's Ferry Division will welcome the first students of a new school year on board Monday, as the Currituck-Knotts Island ferry switches to its fall schedule in order to accommodate students of Currituck County's J.P. Knapp Early College.
The new schedule, in effect from Aug. 8 through the end of the school year, will be as follows:
From Currituck: 6 a.m., 9, 11, 1 p.m., 3:30, 5:30.
From Knotts Island: 6:50 a.m., 10, noon, 2 p.m., 4:30, 6:20.
From Currituck: 6 a.m., 9, 11, 2 p.m., 4.
From Knotts Island: 7 a.m., 10, noon, 3 p.m., 5.
As always, the Currituck-Knotts Island ferry is free for all motorists and passengers. The route was established in the fall of 1962 to shorten travel time for students between Knotts Island and schools on the mainland.
