Raleigh - The bridge on Bizzell Grove Church Road over I-95 near Micro in Johnston County will re-open Thursday morning to limited access traffic. It has been closed since April 4 because of damage caused when it was hit by an oversized truck trailer on I-95 South.
For safety purposes, lanes on the bridge have been temporarily narrowed in anticipation of upcoming final repairs. That means only cars will be allowed across the bridge for now, with no buses or trucks. Local emergency services and the school district have been notified of the change in the bridge status.
Plans for those emergency bridge repairs are being finalized. It is hoped a contractor will be hired and on the job by the end of the month.
Until those repairs are completed, the detour that has been in place since the closure will remain in place. It will send larger vehicles onto U.S. 301, Micro Road and Lowell Mill Road to get around the restricted access.
Drivers are urged to watch for detour signs and pay attention to the roadway restriction. For real-time travel information at any time, visit the Traveler Services section of the NCDOT website or follow NCDOT on Twitter.
