Greensboro - Department of Transportation maintenance crews will now begin work next month to replace an existing undersized, and dilapidated pipe culvert, prompting the closure of a portion of Ephesus Church Road in Chapel Hill next week.
"The Department has rescheduled the start of the closure of Ephesus Church Road initially set for Monday, Oct. 24 and the revised schedule has work starting one week later, on Nov. 1," said Division Seven Engineer Mike Mills.
This work is necessary to address the flooding issues that have been occurring at this location.
Work will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, and conclude at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, weather permitting.
Local traffic will be able to access homes and businesses from either end of Ephesus Church Road, but will not be able to pass beyond the closure points on either side of the work.
Motorists driving through the area should plan for additional time to travel around the closure using the posted detour route of Pope Road, Old Chapel Hill Road, Mount Moriah Road and U.S. 15-501-Fordham Boulevard.
The department encourages motorists to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
