Raleigh - A project to replace a pair of 65-year-old bridges on Old Lake Road north of East Columbus High School in Lake Waccamaw in Columbus County gets under way on Monday, April 4. It will require the closure of the road between U.S. 74/76 and Green Swamp Road.
The new bridges are scheduled to be open for travel within 180 days of the start of work, which would be by early October.
Access to residences within the closed section of the road will remain open up to the construction locations. A signed detour will be in place to get around the closure, using U.S. 74/76, and N.C. 211 (Green Swamp Road).
The work is part of an $11.6-million dollar contract awarded to E.S. Wagner Company of Piedmont, S.C. to replace 16 bridges in Columbus County.
