Charlotte - A motorist severely damaged a utility pole on Providence Road this morning south of the intersection with Queens Road. The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed both northbound lanes and one southbound lane of Providence Road between Cherokee Road and Colville Road to make room for crews to repair the pole.
Repair work will continue through the middle of the afternoon and could extend through the early evening rush hour. Motorists are advised to avoid this section of Providence Road, although there will be limited access through the area on the one open lane. Randolph Road and Park Road are available as alternate routes.
The department will provide a progress update later this afternoon.
