Raleigh - The N.C. Department of Transportation has re-opened Gillespie Street in Fayetteville after assisting A&R Railroad personnel in replacing a railroad crossing at N.C. 87 (MLK Jr. Freeway) this week.
The road opened at 4 p.m. Thursday, more than a day ahead of schedule.
Transportation crews removed the asphalt and rubber mats from the crossing. State officials also assisted with traffic control. After the railroad crossing was replaced, staff from the transportation department installed new asphalt and replaced pavement markings.
