Winston-Salem - A road re-opening is planned for Tuesday morning for a railway crossing relocation project at Goff Road between West Dalton Road and Old U.S. 52 Road near King in Stokes County. The crossing has been closed since June 20.
Although the road will re-open, additional work is needed, including the addition of crossing arms to halt traffic when a train is traveling through the area. Until the arms are in place, which may be in September, the railroad will have flaggers in place to halt traffic when a train comes through.
This crossing has very low traffic volume, and this relocation is taking place at the request of the Stokes County Board of Education due to safety and a documented collision history. The project is part of a nationwide effort to reduce the number of redundant and/or unsafe rail-highway at-grade crossings.
