Harrisburg Veterans Road Opens Friday

Charlotte - On Friday, August 5, the North Carolina Department of Transportation will open Harrisburg Veterans Road from N.C. 49 to Stallings Road in Harrisburg. The new road, which is an extension of Roberta Road, includes a bridge over the North Carolina Railroad. The Harrisburg Town Council approved the name of the new road in June.

At 9 a.m. on Monday, August 8, NCDOT will permanently close the railroad crossing at Robinson Church Road. Motorists accustomed to traveling through this crossing should instead use the new Harrisburg Veterans Road.

Also at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 8, crews will temporarily close the intersection of Robinson Church Road and Stallings Road in order to reconfigure the intersection to address the closure of the railroad crossing. The intersection of Robinson Church Road and Stallings Road will reopen Monday afternoon following the completion of the work.

Message boards will be in place in advance of these changes to alert motorists.

Transportation projects like this one are underway across the state as part of Governor McCrory's 25-Year Transportation Vision to support rail, enhance travel safety and to better connect North Carolinians to jobs, education, healthcare and recreation opportunities.

Harrisburg Veterans Road and the changes to Robinson Church Road are part of the NCDOT's Piedmont Improvement Program, the modernization of the state's railways through a series of railroad and highway construction projects and enhancements. Grade separation projects, such as the new bridge on Harrisburg Veterans Road, reduce the risk of automobile/train collisions, improve safety for automobile and rail passengers, and reduce automobile and train traffic congestion.
