Greensboro - Transportation officials want to prepare you for slowdowns that will take place over the next several weekends as area football games and community events are set to generate a high volume of traffic around the Triad. High traffic events taking place this fall: National Folk Festival: Sep. 9 -11 with high traffic times expected daily from noon to 11 p.m. in and around downtown Greensboro. WFU Football vs. Delaware: Sep. 17, with high traffic times expected from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem. Winston-Salem Classic: Sep. 17, with high traffic times expected from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem. Dixie Classic Fair: Sep. 30 -Oct. 9 with high traffic times expected from sunup to sundown daily around the Winston-Salem fairgrounds. N.C. A&T Homecoming: Oct. 29 with high traffic times expected from 6 a.m. until midnight around W. Gate City Boulevard (formerly Lee Street) and Yanceyville Street near the Greensboro campus. Motorists who do not need to travel in the vicinity during events are asked to avoid the area. NCDOT will utilize overhead message signs and portable message signs to alert motorists of problem areas and suggested alternate routes around incidents and congestion if needed.
