I-40 East Exit at Gorman Street Reopens

Raleigh - Ramp work wrapped up on time over the weekend and the Interstate 40 East exit at Gorman Street in the Fortify construction zone in Raleigh reopened in time for Monday morning rush hour.

The exit had been closed since about 6 p.m. on Thursday so crews could safely fully reconstruct the ramp, which involved tearing up and excavating the existing pavement and ground underneath, installing a drainage system, building the new ramp and putting down pavement markings.

Project details, as well as traffic updates, live traffic cameras and information about alternate transit options can be found on

Real-time travel information for Fortify and other highways across the state is also available at any time in the Traveler Services section of or by following NCDOT on Twitter.
