Raleigh - Repairs on the roadway damaged on I-95 South near Smithfield by a truck fire on Wednesday afternoon have been completed, and the lanes have reopened. The northbound lanes had reopened early this morning.
The contractor handling the repairs milled away 910 square yards of burnt asphalt and used 160 tons of asphalt to rebuild the roadway. Crews then had to wait for the asphalt to cool down so new traffic lanes could be placed on the road. They were able to open it about 5:30 p.m.
