Charlotte - A smoother ride is in store for a section of Interstate 77 between Tyvola Road and the South Carolina border with an $11.4 million contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Blythe Construction, Inc. of Charlotte will resurface more than five miles of I-77 and also will improve some of the bridges in the corridor.
Work can start on April 1, 2017 and should be completed by Sept. 30, 2017.
This was one of nine road and bridge projects recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation. They came in at about $43.5 million, which was nearly $530,000 under DOT engineers' estimates. The contracts were awarded to the lowest qualified bidders, as required by state law.
