Intersection Closure Planned for Downtown Fayetteville

Work is associated with Russell Street improvements; businesses are still open.

Raleigh - The N.C. Department of Transportation will close the intersection of Gillespie Street and Russell Street for construction work over this weekend. The closure is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, and the route will reopen no later than 6 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 29.

Motorists will use Williams Street, Blount Street/Campbell Avenue and Cool Springs Street following a marked detour.

The work is associated with a project to improve storm drainage on Russell Street from Gillespie Street to Cross Creek Street. Crews are replacing approximately 900 feet of storm drainage pipe and improving future storm drainage along the route. After the roadway settled in numerous locations along the route, crews investigated the area. They found the existing storm drain on Russell Street was failing, and the terracotta pipe material was distorted with extensive cracking.

Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
