Just Over 24 Hours Remain Until Voting Ends to Rename The Historic Business 40 Highway in Forsyth County

Winston-Salem - As construction is set to begin on the Business 40 Improvement project, the N.C. Department of Transportation invites you to help rename that portion of Highway as well as a 20-mile portion of the historic route between I-40 east of Kernersville to I-40 west of Winston-Salem. Public voting has been underway since March 4th of this year when a selection committee made up of representatives from around the county narrowed down a list of some 1,800 public nominations to these four names:

  • Golden Leaf Parkway
  • Innovation Highway

  • Piedmont Corridor

  • Salem Parkway

To date more than 4,000 votes have been cast by web, text and landline on these four names!

On Wednesday, June 15 at midnight, voting will close and the final count will be certified by NCDOT Project Team consultants from Neighborhood Solutions in Winston-Salem; but before it does the public can call, text or email their favorite name:

DIAL TO VOTE: 336-448-3156

Listen to the prompts; speak clearly to choose a name

TEXT TO VOTE: 650-600-9016

  • Golden Leaf Parkway -text 109330

  • Innovation Highway -text 109331

  • Piedmont Corridor -text 109332

  • Salem Parkway -text 109333

"A new $100 million highway project deserves a new name and the public made that clear when we first began this planning process to rehab Business 40 about a decade ago," said Division 9 Engineer Pat Ivey.

All residents of the metropolitan area are eligible to vote. There will be only 10 votes allowed per device. The name of the highway will be announced after the announcement of the project's Design Build (contracting) Team in the coming months.
