Knox Road Bridge Replacement Starts Oct. 3 in Guilford County

Greensboro - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to begin replacing the Knox Road Bridge over Little Alamance Creek, closing a portion of the roadway near McLeansville. "Bridge projects are underway across the state as part of Governor McCrory's 25-Year Transportation Vision to better connect North Carolinians to jobs, education, healthcare and recreation opportunities," said Division Seven Engineer Mike Mills. Work will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3. The new bridge should be open by April 2017. Drivers will be able to detour around the work using Birch Creek Road and Burlington Road. This project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. The 58-year-old existing bridge is functionally obsolete, and was built to design standards no longer used.
