Lane Closures Next Week on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge in New Hanover County
Wilmington - The Department of Transportation will intermittently close the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge on U.S. 421 over the Cape Fear River in Wilmington next week. The closures will be at night, starting at 9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13, and ending at 5 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 17.
One lane in each direction will remain open to traffic at all times.
The closures are needed so crews can safely repair areas of the metal deck on the lift span of the bridge that have been damaged from changes in weather, wear and fatigue. They will also inspect the remainder of the deck and make repairs as needed.
Although the bridge will not be closed to traffic, drivers are urged to seek alternate routes to avoid possible delays. They should use caution while traveling in the area, watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
