- Lane closures will be in place on Friday, April 1, as crews work to repair a leaky water main that caused water to collect on U.S. 74 Westbound near Sunnyside Avenue and Interstate 277 in Charlotte.
In February, NCDOT closed one lane of U.S. 74 Westbound at this location because seeping water had created icy conditions. NCDOT worked with Charlotte Water to determine that the water was coming from a water main.
The City has scheduled work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday in order to locate the water main. Crews will begin working on U.S. 74 outbound to minimize delays for morning commuters traveling into Charlotte. Once the work is completed on U.S. 74 outbound, crews will switch to U.S. 74 inbound, time permitting.
Contractors will be performing the repair work, as well as managing traffic control. All work is dependent on good weather conditions and subject to rescheduling.
