Lane closures will be in place this weekend as crews repair a leaky water main that caused water to collect on U.S. 74 Westbound near Sunnyside Avenue and Interstate 277 in Charlotte.
In February, NCDOT closed one lane of U.S. 74 Westbound at this location because seeping water had created icy conditions. NCDOT worked with Charlotte Water to determine that the water was coming from a water main.
The City has scheduled repairs to begin Friday, March 18, at 8 p.m. with all lanes open to traffic by Monday, March 21, at 5 a.m. During this time, the two right lanes of U.S. 74 Westbound in this location will be closed. Contractors will be performing the repair work, as well as managing traffic control.
On Thursday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to noon, the contractor will install a temporary closure of the right lane of U.S. 74 to perform some testing in advance of the weekend closure.
