Greensboro - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will begin replacing the bridge carrying Mooresfields Road over a section of Rocky Run Creek with a culvert, closing the road just southwest of Hillsborough for 90 days. Work will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26. The road will remain closed to through traffic during construction, which is expected to be complete by Dec. 24. Local traffic will be able to access homes and businesses from either end of Moorefields Road, but will not be able to pass beyond the closure points on either side of the bridge. Motorists traveling through the area will use Dimmocks Mill Road, Thoroughbred Lane and S.R. 1135 to detour around the work. The department encourages motorists to stay alert, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely. This project is part of the department's overall program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. The existing bridge is reaching the end of its life cycle.
