Moving Road Closures Coming Along I-40 in Orange and Alamance Counties For Painting

Greensboro - N.C. Department of Transportation crews will begin painting the pavement markings along I-40, from Exit 148 near Hillsborough, to the Durham County line prompting moving road closures. From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily starting Monday, March 28, until Wednesday, March 30; crews will conduct moving closures along the project route. For the safety of the workers, as well as motorists and their passengers, NCDOT encourages drivers to pay extra attention, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely. NCDOT is also taking this time to remind the traveling public of the Move Over Law. Under the "Move Over" law, motorists are required to move over one lane, if possible, or reduce speed for stopped emergency vehicles with flashing lights on the shoulder of the highway, including public service vehicles with amber lights. Violating the law could result in a $500 fine. For real-time travel information, visit the Traveler Services section of or follow NCDOT on Twitter.
