Raleigh - N.C. Department of Transportation crews will perform bridge approach repairs on N.C. 159 at the entrance of the N.C. Zoological Park in Asheboro next week. Repairs are needed because of issues with one of the drainage structures.
Bridge maintenance projects like this are underway across the state as part of Governor McCrory's 25-Year Transportation Vision to enhance travel safety and to better connect North Carolinians to jobs, education, healthcare and recreation opportunities. The Governor's budget called for improving bridge safety by increasing repair and replacement funding by 58 percent, totaling $242 million in 2016-2017.
The repairs will start Monday, May 16. Depending on the progress of the project, it could be completed in one day.
The work will not require a detour, but traffic will be limited to just one lane. Drivers will be directed through the area by flagmen.
NCDOT reminds motorists to slow down for their safety, as well as the work crew, and to watch for construction signs.
