Charlotte - With the possibility of snow on Friday morning, crews with the N.C. Department of Transportation will be working overnight to treat roads in advance of the storm.
Fifteen NCDOT contract trucks will begin brining the Charlotte region's interstate bridges starting Friday at 2 a.m. Brine is a 23 percent salt-and-water solution that helps prevent ice from bonding to the pavement. After brining operations are complete, the trucks will be staged near interstate flyover bridges, where ice often forms first.
NCDOT continues to monitor the forecast and the possibility of additional winter weather on Monday, Feb. 15. NCDOT crews in the Charlotte area will make a determination about preparations for that storm in the coming days.
