Winston-Salem - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors must close alternating lanes along the entire 2,904 foot length of the Yadkin River Bridge between mile markers 82 and 83 on I-85 North near Spencer, while workers begin biennial inspections.
"Inspections are part of the department's overall bridge program and this bridge is one of the most important in terms of connectivity in the region," said Division 9 Bridge Maintenance Engineer Chuck White.
Work will begin daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, June 3 and will wrap up on Saturday, June 4.
NCDOT crews will also be working in the roadway, and the department reminds the traveling public to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the Move Over Law.
Under the "Move Over" law, motorists are required to move over one lane, if possible, or reduce speed for stopped emergency vehicles with flashing lights on the shoulder of the highway, including public service vehicles with amber lights. Violating the law could result in a $500 fine.
