Winston-Salem - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will close a portion of Gerry Drive from Doe Run Drive to Hastings Hill Road on Thursday, April 7 as they relocate the roadway, which will eventually allow for use of a new on-ramp from the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway to U.S. 421.
Work is being done as a part of the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway Project; a multi-lane freeway that loops around the northern part of Winston-Salem. The project begins at U.S. 158 southwest of Winston-Salem and ends at I-74/U.S. 311 southeast of the city. The total length of the project is 34.2 miles.
At 9 a.m., crews will close the road to begin work and the road will remain closed until work is completed Friday, Nov. 11, weather permitting.
Motorists traveling through the area will use the 1-mile signed detour route along the open portion of Gerry Drive, Hastings Hill Road, West Mountain Street and Doe Run Drive.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
