Greensboro - The N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will be closing alternating shoulders along a 25-mile stretch of highway from the Guilford/Alamance line to the split of I-85/40 in Orange County over the next month.
Crews will be removing aging ground mounted signs, replacing them with new signs.
Weather permitting, work will take place daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting Tuesday, July 26, and is expected to be completed by Wednesday, Aug. 31.
While the road will not be closed, crews will be working alongside traffic.
NCDOT reminds the traveling public to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the Move Over Law.
The law which requires motorists to move over one lane, if possible, or reduce speed for stopped construction and emergency vehicles with flashing lights on the shoulder of the highway. Violating the law could result in a $250 fine.
