Raleigh - Maintenance work is scheduled to begin Wednesday night, weather permitting, on dual bridges that carry Northwest Cary Parkway over Southern Railroad tracks south of its intersection with N.C. 54. The work will require intermittent nighttime lane closures and weekend detours over the next four weeks.
Weekday lane closures can be in place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., with all lanes of the Parkway open for morning and afternoon commuters and daytime traffic.
The weekend detours (see map below) will involve a temporary closure of one of the two bridges at a time, starting with the bridge carrying the northbound lanes. The closures will be in place from 9 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. the following Monday.
The detour for the closure of the northbound bridge (traffic heading toward N.C. 54) will send drivers left onto High House Road, then right on Davis Drive, right on Morrisville Parkway, and right on N.C. 54 (Chapel Hill Road) by the Park West Village Shopping Center to get back to Cary Parkway.
When the southbound bridge is closed, the detour route goes the opposite way, turning right on N.C. 54, left on Morrisville Parkway, left on Davis Drive and left on High House Road to return to Cary Parkway.
Access to roads that intersect with the Parkway on approaches to both sides of the bridges will remain open during the weekend closures.
