Bridge work starts next weekend
Raleigh - Contractors for the Department of Transportation will begin nighttime construction on I-95, heading north in Eastover in Cumberland County, beginning on Sunday, Sept. 18.
These lane closures will be nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Friday, Sept. 23.
Crews will mill and resurface the ramp on Exit 55 at Murphy Road and continuing north along I-95. This resurfacing will be a nightly operation on I-95 and the ramps.
Contractors will rehabilitate the bridge decks on I-95 over N.C. 421, near Dunn. Traffic will be detoured down the exit ramp and back onto I-95 utilizing the on-ramp.
Also, beginning 6 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, contractors will begin bridge rehabilitation on U.S. 301/I-95 Business in Eastover on the flyover I-95 bridge. The rehabilitation will involve both day and nighttime construction. One lane will be closed until Saturday, Oct. 8.
This project is part of the Department of Transportation's program to rehabilitate and replace substandard bridges across the state. The state budget signed by Governor McCrory last year provided more than $450 million over two years to improve the state's bridges.
