The left outbound lane of N.C. 16/Brookshire Boulevard has reopened, following a paint spill that covered the highway this morning. NCDOT is currently working with cleanup crews to reopen the remaining lane on N.C. 16, as well as the ramp to I-85, within the next hour.
Any paint not already cleaned up has dried on the highway. NCDOT's top priority is making sure that the remaining paint doesn't make existing pavement markings difficult for motorists to decipher.
Once both outbound lanes and the ramp are open and the rush hour queue has diminished, NCDOT will work with the cleaning company to schedule a time for additional cleanup. This could be as soon as later tonight or tomorrow, depending on availability of cleanup crews.
Motorists should continue to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, if possible.
