The Department of Transportation will close two of four northbound lanes along a one-mile section of I-85 between the exits for Innes Street and Jake Alexander Boulevard in Salisbury.
The closures are needed so crews can safely rehabilitate the pavement, smoothing out bumpy areas with a diamond grinder.
"Road improvement projects like this one are currently underway across the state as part of Governor McCrory's 25-Year Transportation Vision to enhance travel safety and to better connect North Carolinians to jobs, education, healthcare and recreation opportunities," said Division 9 Engineer Pat Ivey.
Work has been scheduled during the evening in an effort to minimize impact to traffic. The lane closures will take place nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday, July 25, and are expected to be completed by Monday, Aug. 15.
