Greensboro - The Department of Transportation will close a section of Interstate 85 South at the I-40/85 split in eastern Guilford County on Friday night so crews can safely rehabilitate the concrete pavement, smoothing out bumpy areas with a diamond grinder.
Work is scheduled overnight to minimize impact to traffic. It will start at 10 p.m. on Friday and be completed by 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Traffic will be detoured to Business 85 at the split, returning to I-85 south of Greensboro. Local traffic can access U.S. 220, Elm Street and U.S. 421 from Business 85. Travelers can reach Young's Mill Road and Alamance Church Road by using the Lee Street exit from Business 85.
NCDOT reminds motorists to slow down and stay alert in the area, and watch for signs with construction and detour information.
