Raleigh - The North Carolina Department of Transportation recently awarded a contract to update pedestrian areas along 0.36 miles of N.C. 73 (Main Street) in Montgomery County. The project will add sidewalks and tie into existing sidewalks from Parker Town Road to the Aberdeen Carolina and Western Railway crossing in Mount Gilead.
The work will include adding drainage, curbs, gutters and sidewalk.
There will be no detours associated with the work, but drivers are asked to use caution in the area, watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limits.
Crews can begin as early as Feb. 1, and work is expected to wrap up by the end of April, weather permitting.
Trull Contracting of Midland is the contractor for the $163,000 project, which was awarded to the lowest bidder as required by state law.
