Greensboro - N.C. Department of Transportation crews will close a section of Bass Mountain Road between Keystone Road and Tingen Road just south of Graham while workers replace the bridge over Varnals Creek.
Weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 4, and the road will reopen to traffic by Friday, July 1.
The Bass Mountain Road Bridge project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. Built in 1953 the bridge is considered structurally deficient, has reached the end of its life cycle and needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.
Local traffic will continue to be able to access homes and businesses at either end of Bass Mountain Road but will not be able to pass beyond the closure points on either side of the bridge. Motorists will use Keystone Road, Mt. Herman Rock Creek Road, Beale Road and Carl Noah Road will be the signed detour.
