- A portion of City View Drive in Charlotte will close temporarily next week as crews continue making progress on the Independence Boulevard widening project.
Beginning Monday, July 25, City View Drive will close from its intersection with Independence Boulevard to approximately 200 feet down City View Drive. The closure is scheduled to remain in place for 21 days.
Highway projects like this one are currently underway across the state as part of Governor McCrory's 25-Year Transportation Vision to enhance travel safety and to better connect North Carolinians to jobs, education, healthcare and recreation opportunities.
Motorists will be directed to take Dion Ave back to City View Drive to avoid the closure. During this time, crews will be installing storm drains, placing asphalt and working on curb, gutter and sidewalk.
Once completed, the project will widen Independence Boulevard from N.C. 24/27 (Albemarle Road) to east of Wallace Lane, creating an expressway with no traffic signals on Independence Boulevard between Harris Boulevard and Uptown Charlotte. The contract amount for the project is $51.7 million, and it is scheduled to open to traffic in summer 2017.
