Greensboro - N.C. Department of Transportation crews will close a section of Mebane-Oakes Road between Nicks Road and Hebron Church Road in Mebane while workers replace the bridge over a tributary of Haw Creek.
Weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, May 9, and the road will reopen to traffic by Monday, Oct. 10.
The Mebane-Oaks Road Bridge project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. Built in 1955 the bridge is considered functionally obsolete and structurally deficient; has reached the end of its life cycle and needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.
Local traffic will continue to be able to access homes and businesses at either end of Mebane Oaks Road. Motorists will use Jones Drive and Cooke Street as the 3-mile signed detour.
