Charlotte - The Department of Transportation will temporarily close a portion of Olive Branch Road in Union County to construct a new alignment as part of the Monroe Expressway.
The road will close to traffic on Saturday, Oct. 29 between Cyrus Edwards Road and Helms Pond Road. The road should reopen Monday, Nov. 7. Access to residences will be maintained during the closure.
Motorists can avoid the closure by following a signed detour using Morgan Mill Road, New Salem Road, Old Camden Road and Olive Branch Road.
Once completed, the Monroe Expressway will extend nearly 20 miles from U.S. 74 near I-485 in Mecklenburg County to U.S. 74 between the towns of Wingate and Marshville in Union County. It is a good example of the transportation projects underway across the state that fit Governor McCrory's 25-Year Transportation Vision to enhance travel safety and better connect North Carolinians to jobs, education, healthcare and recreation opportunities.
