- Beginning Tuesday, July 12, crews with the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a portion of Orr Road at its intersection with Old Concord Road to perform work on the rail crossing.
The detour will direct motorists to follow Old Concord Road to Grier Road, then to Orr Road. NCDOT opened the new Grier Road bridge to traffic on July 1.
NCDOT is working to curb train-related crashes, fatalities and injuries in the state as part of Governor McCrory's 25-Year Vision to promote rail and transportation safety. The rail work in this location is part of the Piedmont Improvement Program, a series of projects between Raleigh and Charlotte that are designed to modernize the state's railways. The outcome will make train travel safer and more reliable, enhance opportunity for greater job growth and commercial development and better connect the economic regions of Raleigh and Charlotte and the cities, towns and communities in between.
The closure will be in place for 90 days.
