Charlotte - The Department of Transportation will temporarily close U.S. 601 between Maple Hill Road and Ridge Road/Baucom Deese Road in Union County as part of the Monroe Expressway project.
The overnight closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Oct. 26, 27 and 31 for crews to install bridge girders. Closures will be intermittent throughout the night and should last no more than 30 minutes at a time.
The Monroe Expressway will improve capacity by providing high-speed regional travel while maintaining access to properties along existing U.S. 74. Construction on the Monroe Expressway started in May 2015, and the project is expected to open to traffic in late 2018. Once completed, it will extend nearly 20 miles from U.S. 74 near I-485 in Mecklenburg County to U.S. 74 between the towns of Wingate and Marshville in Union County.
