Asheville - A transportation proposal involving I-40 and Liberty Road in Buncombe County needs thoughts and suggestions from citizens of the Candler area.
The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold an informal public meeting regarding a proposed conversion of the Liberty Road bridge over Interstate 40 into an interchange, and the construction of a new road between U.S. 19/23 and Pisgah Highway to Monte Vista Road in Asheville.
The purpose of this project is to improve a lack of connectivity on I-40 between the Smokey Park Highway and Wiggins Road by providing additional access to the interstate.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the gymnasium of St. Francis Asbury United Methodist Church at 725 Asbury Road in Candler.
State Transportation representatives will provide information and answer questions regarding this project.
There will not be a formal presentation. The opportunity to submit written comments will also be provided at the meeting or can be submitted by mail no later than Sept. 13.
The public can view maps displaying the location and design of the project online at https://www.ncdot.gov/projects/publicmeetings/?search=Liberty
