Asheville - Norfolk Southern will close a section of Biltmore Avenue on Monday, Oct. 10 to improve the crossing just south of Swannanoa River Road.
The road will be closed from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Monday in order for the railroad company to repair the track at this crossing.
The closure will impact traffic heading north from Interstate 40 to Biltmore Village and beyond to Mission Hospital. Motorists heading south from downtown will also need to schedule extra time into their plans.
Norfolk Southern will put detour signs in place. The detour heading north consists of taking Biltmore Avenue to McDowell Street, following that for one mile, then a right on Hospital Drive which leads to Biltmore Avenue. Southbound drivers should take a right on Hospital Drive and left on McDowell to return to Biltmore Avenue. A pedestrian detour will also be in place.
