- The N.C. Department of Transportation will close two Interstate 85 ramps in the coming weeks as progress continues on the I-85 widening project, I-3802A, in Cabarrus County.
Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, the off-ramp from I-85 North to U.S. 29/601 will be closed for demolition activities on the South Main Street bridge over I-85. This ramp closure will remain in place until 6 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 29.
Crews will continue those demolition activities the following weekend. For that work, crews will close the on-ramp to I-85 South from U.S. 29/601. That ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday, March 4, to 6 a.m. on Monday, March 7.
During both ramp closures, motorists will be detoured to the Dale Earnhardt Blvd exit in order to access I-85 or U.S. 29/601.
This work is part the project to widen approximately eight miles of I-85 from north of N.C. 73 (Exit 55) to north of Lane Street (Exit 63) in Cabarrus County. Interchange improvements are also planned for interchanges at U.S. 29/601 (Exit 58), Dale Earnhardt Boulevard (Exit 60) and Lane Street (Exit 63).
