Greensboro - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to replace the bridge carrying High Rock Road over a tributary of Reedy Fork Creek between N.C. 61 and Bentham Road in Guilford County starting Monday, Aug. 29. The new bridge should be open by Wednesday, Dec. 21.
"The High Rock Road project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges," said DOT Division Seven Assistant Resident Engineer Christopher Fine. "The existing bridge built in 1963 is structurally deficient, functionally obsolete and no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it."
Bridge replacements like this are a key part of the Governor McCrory's 25-Year Transportation Vision to enhance travel safety and to better connect North Carolinians to jobs, education, healthcare and recreation opportunities.
Drivers will use N.C. 61, Turner Smith Road and Rivertrack Road as the 3.9-mile detour route.
Motorists are reminded to slow down as they approach the work zone and road closure, and pay extra attention to detour signs.
