Greensboro - Transportation officials will celebrate the completion of the Graham to Haw River Passing Siding with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Pomeroy Street and Cannon Street in Graham(MAP).
Transportation Deputy Secretary for Transit Keith Weatherly, Rail Director Paul Worley and others will speak.
The department has improved tracks along the North Carolina Railroad corridor between Graham and Haw River.
Work included building a passing siding track, which will allow trains to pass one another. This will eliminate trains bottlenecking along a 22-mile stretch of tracks without any passing siding or double track. The project also realigned and eliminated curves, and reconstructed the track west of Haw River, allowing increased train speeds and reduced travel times for passenger service.
