Road Closure Ahead on Talbert Boulevard as Work Continues to Replace Aging Center Street Bridge in Downtown Lexington

Winston-Salem - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to install girders on the future Center Street Bridge in Lexington, forcing the closure of a portion of N.C. 8 for one night next week.

Work will begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, and will be complete by 5 a.m. the next morning. Drivers will be able to detour around the work using the ramps on Center Street and Talbert Boulevard.

Work taking place on the Center Street Bridge project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. For real-time travel information, visit the Traveler Services section of NCDOT.gov or follow NCDOT on Twitter.

Road, bridge, and other transportation improvement projects like this one are currently underway across the state as part of Governor McCrory's 25-Year Transportation Vision to enhance travel safety and to better connect North Carolinians to jobs, education, healthcare and recreation opportunities.

New transportation projects in the state's current 10-year plan are funded through the Strategic Mobility Formula, a new way of more efficiently investing transportation dollars by using a data-driven scoring process along with local input to fund more projects and create more jobs. The new mobility formula was passed into law in 2013 under Governor McCrory's leadership.
