Raleigh - Work on the project that is adding a new interchange on the Triangle Expressway (N.C. 540) at Old Holly Springs/Apex Road will require a series of rolling roadblocks to be in place south of the U.S. 1 interchange on Friday, Dec. 2.
The rolling roadblocks will keep the roadway open but will slow traffic down briefly to allow crews to safely install three overhead signs.
The initial slowdown will be from 9 to 9:15 a.m. and will be on N.C. 540 South, just south of the U.S. 1 interchange. During this time, crews will also stop traffic on the ramp from U.S. 1 North to N.C. 540 South.
At the same location, an identical rolling roadblock of the southbound lanes and stoppage of the ramp off U.S. 1 North will follow from 11 to 11:15 a.m.
The rolling roadblocks wrap up from 1 to 1:15 p.m., although this time crews will be slowing traffic on N.C. 540 North, north of the N.C. 55 Bypass.
Travel lanes should all be operating normally after the third slowdown wraps up.
The new interchange, which is expected to open in early 2017, is intended to improve accessibility and north-south connectivity within southern Apex by providing direct access to local roads via Old Holly Springs-Apex Road.
