Raleigh - Work to improve the safety of Tom Starling Road near I-95 will require the closure of a section of the road this weekend in Cumberland County. The closure will be between Grandford Road and Production Drive from 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28.
The closure will allow crews to continue work on a $4 million project that will realign two curves along the 4.4-mile route and resurface the existing road. Additional weekend closures are expected, with the project anticipated to be complete by January 2017.
In addition to the realignment of the two curves, the project includes changing the level of another curve to make it safer, improving the storm drain system, and making the lanes wider along most of the road.
Roadway improvement projects like this one are underway across the state as part of Governor McCrory's 25-Year Transportation Vision to enhance travel safety.
Drivers will follow a signed detour using Corporation Drive, N.C. 59 South/Chickenfoot Road, Sand Hill Road and N.C. 87.
State transportation officials remind motorists to watch signs for construction and detour information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. For real-time travel information, visit the Traveler Services section of NCDOT.gov or follow NCDOT on Twitter.
