Slow Downs Commence as Graduation Season Begins in Greensboro

Greensboro - N.C. Department of Transportation is warning motorist of slowdowns that will take place over the next several weekends as commencement ceremonies planned at Greensboro Coliseum are set to generate a high volume of traffic in and around West Gate City Boulevard and Coliseum Boulevard.

Graduation ceremonies will be taking place on the following dates in May:

UNCG: Sunday, May 8 at 10 a.m. with 9,000 patrons with high traffic times expected from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

GTCC: Thursday, May 12 at 7 p.m. with 8,000 patrons with high traffic times expected from 4:30 p.m. until 10 p.m.

The heaviest amount of graduation day traffic is expected for NC A&T SU which will be on Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m. with 13,500 patrons with high traffic times expected from 6:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Motorists who do not need to travel near the coliseum during these events are asked to avoid the area.

NCDOT will utilize overhead message signs and portable message signs to alert motorists of problem areas and suggested alternate routes around incidents and congestion if needed.
