Charlotte - The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close Speedrail Court in Harrisburg as part of continued work updating the rail corridor in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus counties. Speedrail Court, located near the intersection of Pharr Mill Road and N.C. 49, will close to traffic after 6 p.m. on Friday, June 17. The road is expected to reopen by the morning of Monday, June 20. During this time, crews will be doing paving and rail work at the rail spur near Speedrail Court.
These rail upgrades are part of the NCDOT's Harrisburg to Charlotte Double Track Project, which will add 12 miles of double track and realign curves along the North Carolina Railroad. NCDOT has reached out to businesses in the area and alerted them of the upcoming closure. Overall, the Double Track Project will improve speed, efficiency and safety along one of the busiest rail corridors in North Carolina. The project is scheduled for completion in 2017.
