Greensboro - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to replace the bridge carrying St. Mary’s Road over Buckwater Creek, between Stagg Road and Pleasant Green Road near Hillsborough.
Work will begin at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27. The new bridge should be open by May 2016.
Motorists will navigate around the work using an offsite detour using New Sharon Church Road and Schley Road.
The St. Mary’s Road Bridge project is part of the department’s overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state’s bridges. Built in 1953, the existing bridge is functionally obsolete and no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it.
