Charlotte - A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will begin a temporary lane closure on U.S. 29 southbound over Mallard Creek in Charlotte on Monday, Sept. 26, at 9 a.m. The lane closure is part of a $4.4 million project to replace two bridges on U.S. 29 concurrent with construction activities associated with the City of Charlotte's Blue Line Extension project.
The lane closure is necessary to strengthen the roadbed, which should take between one and two months to complete.
During the lane closure, there will be only one lane available for southbound traffic on U.S. 29 over Mallard Creek. Signs will indicate that motorists have the option of avoiding the construction by using Mallard Creek Church Road, Interstate 85 and Harris Boulevard.
The department reminds motorists to stay alert, slow down and use extra caution when traveling through a work zone.
