- Beginning Monday, May 9, the N.C. Department of Transportation will install a daily traffic shift on N.C. 24/27 across the Pee Dee River between Stanly and Montgomery counties. This shift will allow for inspections of the single-lane, westbound N.C. 24/27 bridge, known as the Swift Island Bridge.
NCDOT will shift traffic traveling westbound onto the parallel eastbound bridge. This shift will allow crews to perform inspections designed to gather data on the condition of the bridge's superstructure and substructure.
The traffic pattern shift will only be in place during the day, and at night, NCDOT will return traffic to its normal pattern. All inspections should be complete by Thursday, May 26, in advance of Memorial Day.
